Fall in Love With Being Intentional About Your Peace
Stop for a moment and feel your body.
How does it feel?
Are your shoulders tense? Is your stomach in knots? Is your mind racing?
Peace is something I think we all want to feel. If there's someone who doesn't, I'd genuinely love to have a conversation with them about why.
We experience life in many different ways, and feeling at peace is part of that experience. But sometimes, peace can feel difficult to find in the middle of life.
We wait for the day to end so we can go home and find peace.
We wait for the weekend.
We wait for the holiday.
We wait for the right moment.
But what if peace isn't always something waiting for us somewhere else?
I had to ask myself what peace actually looked like in my life.
I had a moment when I realised that I yearned for peace.
I believed I wanted it. I believed I had made it a priority.
But I had to take a step back and honestly look at how peace actually functioned in my life.
What was I doing to cultivate peace?
Or was I simply expecting it to appear?
In another person?
In a particular moment?
In a future version of my life?
What that moment taught me was that if I wanted peace, I had to fall in love with being intentional about it.
For me, that means acknowledging where I am.
Am I fighting against reality?
Am I existing in a space of expectations?
Am I taking moments for myself, not as another task on my list, but as an intentional and thoughtful action?
Do I slow down before speaking?
Or am I rushing to get the words out while doing 101 other things?
Peace isn't always a big event.
It doesn't have to arrive with the perfect moment, the perfect person or the perfect life.
Sometimes, peace is something you choose to create in the small moments.
Spending time talking to the people I love.
Being in my favourite places.
Going to the beach.
Slowing down my speech.
Checking my body for tension.
And when I can, massaging those tense areas and taking deep breaths, letting my body know that it's okay to be calm right now.
Peace isn't always something you stumble across. Sometimes, it's something you choose to be intentional about.
Peace can live in the small moments.
I know now that peace can sometimes mean escaping for a moment.
But it can also mean becoming more intentional about the moments you're already living.
And sometimes, that intention leads to bigger decisions too.
More about what decisions I made on another post...
